The driving force behind this development is Catholic philanthropist Tom Monaghan, founder of Dominos Pizza and the Chancellor of Ave Maria University. His partner is Barron Collier Companies. Monaghan and Barron Collier Companies have exclusive control of commercial real estate in the town.
